In a sad and unfortunate news, Bollywood actress Sridevi passed away on Saturday night due to cardiac arrest. Sridevi, who is considered as one of the first female superstars of Bollywood, was in Dubai to attend her nephew Mohit Marwah’s wedding. She went to attend the wedding with her husband Boney Kapoor and her younger daughter Khushi. The actress was just 54 years old and the news of Sridevi’s death came as a shock for Bollywood as well as her fans. Sridevi’s death news was confirmed by her brother-in-law Sanjay Kapoor.
After attending the wedding, some of Sridevi’s family members retruned from Dubai. However, the actress along with her husband and younger daughter had stayed back. Sridevi’s elder daughter Janhvi had not not travelled with the family because of the shooting schedule for her upcoming Bollywood film, her first in the industry.
Sridevi was known for her versatility as an actress and was a great dancer too. She had made her Bollywood debut with Solva Sawan in 1978. Her first major success was Jeetendra-starrer “Himmatwala”. Even before entering Bollywood, Sridevi was a known name in the South Indian film industry. She made her debut as a child artist in in Tamil film “Thunaivan” in 1969. She also worked in Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada films.

Some of Sridevi’s famous movies include “Mawaali” (1983), “Tohfa” (1984), “Mr India” (1987) and “Chandni” (1989) kept her at the top in the box-office game, her outings like “Sadma” (1983), “ChaalBaaz” (1989), “Lamhe” (1991), and “Gumrah” (1993). These movies were not only huge commercial hits but had also earned her critical acclaim.
After featuring in home production ‘Judaai’ along with her brother-in-law Anil Kapoor, Sridevi took a break from movies. She made a comeback to the big screen with director Gauri Shinde’s “English Vinglish” in 2012. She was last seen in critically praised movie ‘Mom’ in 2017 alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Akshaye Khanna.
“Saddened by the untimely demise of noted actor Sridevi. She was a veteran of the film industry, whose long career included diverse roles and memorable performances. My thoughts are with her family and admirers in this hour of grief. May her soul rest in peace,” PM Narendra Modi posted on Twitter.
