Sketch box office collection day 1: Vikram starrer Sketch which hit the silver screen this Friday was one of the most anticipated films of the actor this year. Sketch revolves around the life of Sketch (Vikram) who dons shades of character quite similar to that we saw in Gemini. Tamannaah Bhatia who starts of 2018 with the Vijay Chander directorial venture plays the leading lady in the film. Sketch had created a good buzz in the market. While it took a significant number of screens across Tamil Nadu among other films coming out on the same day, it also received a strong launch in Kerala. But the critics panned the film owing to the lacklustre direction which gave the actors little or almost no chance to come forth with their magnificence. The film opened to a good earning at the US box office and earned Rs -$ 2,027 which is equivalent to Rs 30 lakhs.
Inspite of being a 2018 film, there is nothing novel about the film which harps on the same lines. But inspite of the flaws, the highlight of the film is of course Vikram who has been able to charm the audience by the means of his grungy looks. The actor’s screen presence is the only reason why I was looking at the screen. His swagger and good looks are admirable but Sketch isn’t a role for someone of his calibre.
It was cleared by the censor board with U/A certificate recently paving the way for its release worldwide on January 12 and will try to encash on the Pongal holiday as much as possible. The distribution rights of the Vikram starrer in Kerala have been acquired by Malayalam superstar Mohanlal’s distribution company Maxlab Cinemas and Entertainments, which is co-owned by producer Antony Perumbavoor.
Chiyaan Vikram has two films that are gearing up to hit the screens at frequent intervals this year besides Sketch. Saamy Square and Dhruva Natchathiram will take top slots in a movie buff’s why-I-am-excited-about 2018 list.
