Shahrukh Khan’s fans have another reason to love Netflix. Now, if you’re in the mood to sit back and watch Shahrukh’s early hits or his recent blockbusters, you can tune into the online movie streaming service. The actor’s Red Chillies Entertainment and Netflix India have come together to sign a long term deal where you stream see all his movies, include all future releases, for the next three years, according to a report in First Post. This is certainly news for SRKians to rejoice.
The move is probably one that will benefit Shahrukh’s fans abroad as well. His films will be streamed globally to Netflix’s 86 million members and, as we know, SRK doesn’t only have a strong fan following in the US, but even places you’d never suspect like Germany or Turkey. This is the first partnership Netflix has done with an Indian film production company and it’s not just because Shahrukh is the badshah of the Bollywood. The deal came on the same day as Netflix’s primary competition Amazon Prime Video launched in India. With Shahrukh on their side, Netflix might now have the edge it needed to dominate the Indian market.
The company launched a trailer titled Netflix: Home To King Khan, which showed a montage of SRK movies and, of course, his famous, “Yeh toh sirf trailer hai, mere dost. Picture abhi baaki hai.” Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos, said, “Shah Rukh Khan is the most sought-after actor in the Indian film industry, and has played a huge role in bringing Indian cinema to the world stage. His moniker ‘King Khan’ speaks to his status as a cultural icon and to the incredible popularity of his films among audiences worldwide.”
“Red Chillies is surging ahead in global entertainment and for the first time, our great stories are going global on Netflix all at once and crossing all geographical barriers, waiting to be discovered over the world. No more waiting for our fans wherever they are,” Shah Rukh said on the deal.
