‘Sultan’ leaked online just hours before the Salman Khan starrer was released in cinemas on Wednesday. Cyber crime experts have confirmed the news.
‘Sultan’ was apparently leaked online on Tuesday. However, so far no police complaint has been lodged in connection. Sultan is one of the most-awaited films of 2016 and is expected to break all kinds of records with its box office collections – according to analysts it will do as much as Rs 35 cr on opening day and as Rs 150 cr in its extended opening weekend.
Sultan is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar; it is Salman Khan’s annual Eid release.
“If one tries proxy server of other countries ‘Sultan’ is out online. But if you try it here (in India), it is blocked. If one goes to watch it online, a message flashes on websites that the content is removed as per Copyright Act,” Ritesh Bhatia, a cyber crime expert said.
“It is unfortunate that films are getting leaked online before its official release. Proper action and investigation needs to be done. It’s the need of the hour,” he added.
However, producers of ‘Sultan’, Yash Raj Films, denied that the Salman Khan starrer has been leaked online.
Salman is playing the titular role of a wrestler from Haryana while Anushka Sharma is playing the female lead in the Ali Abbas Zafar-directed film.
