Salman Khan tops Forbes list following huge success of his film 'Kick' and widespread popularity of 'Bigg Boss'.
For the first time in three years, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has unseated Shah Rukh Khan in the Forbes India Celebrity 100 list. Salman tops the charts, both in terms of revenues and fame, which is a first.
Though the 48-year old star was caught on the wrong foot with his first release of the year, Jai Ho, which failed to create a major buzz in the box office despite being profitable, his second release, ‘Kick’ had been a huge success. But Salman’s position at the top of the list is in no small measure due to his widespread popularity as host of reality show Bigg Boss, now in its eighth season, says Forbes.
Shah Rukh lost his top positions as he didn’t have a film release in the period considered for this list and moves to third spot behind megastar Amitabh Bachchan. SRK, however, remains second in the earning list with Rs 200.4 crore, with a large chunk coming from brand endorsement, but slips to 7th in the fame ranking.
Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni and actor Akshay Kumar completes the top five in the celebrity list.
While Salman Khan’s estimated earnings in 2014 are Rs 244.50 crore while Amitabh Bachchan amassed Rs 196.75 crore, Shah Rukh Rs 202.40 crore, Dhoni Rs. 141.80 crore and Akshay Kumar Rs. 172 crore. The top five in the list accounts for as much as 35 per cent of the total revenues of the top 100.
