Bollywood award shows are known for their unusual humour and a bit of roasting of the celebrities. Every now and then, we have seen these attempts ending up as a failure with some stars getting upset. In the past, Ashutosh Gowarikar got into a heated argument with Farah Khan and brother Sajid Khan while Kamal Rashid Khan walked out of the show after being mocked. In the latest episode, Saif Ali Khan, Karan Johar and Varun Dhawan took on actress Kangana Ranaut during the recently held IIFA awards in New York. Kangana wasn’t present at the show but their act did get a lot of negative responses on social media platforms.
Now, Saif Ali Khan has finally opened up about the incident and explained why he decided to be a part of the act. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Saif while speaking to a leading tabloid said that he really respects Kangana Ranaut and is well aware of the hard way she has achieved her position in the industry. Saif said that Kangana and he have mutual respect for each other but added that even though he understand’s Kangana’s stance on nepotism, he has a different take on it.

Saif went on to add that just because people knew his father does not mean that he had an easy journey in Bollywood – his mother Sharmila Tagore was once the top heroine in Bollywood too. He said that he had starred in terrible films and that phase lasted for a long time for him. Saif said what he did with Karan and Varun at IIFA was just a joke and nothing should be read into it.
During this interview, Saif also expressed his disappointment over the poor script for this year’s IIFA. After being slammed for their nepotism rocks remark, Varun was the first one to apologise on Twitter and now Saif has also joined the list.
