Running Shaadi box office collections remained under Rs 50 lakh (0.21 crore) on Saturday. The Taapsee Pannu and Amit Sadh film has received mixed reviews and neither is it a big-budget film with celebrities. Even a 100 per cent jump over the weekend won’t serve the purpose of making the film a hit. The film is competing with Irada, Rana Daggubati’s Ghazi Attack and Akshay Kumar’s Jolly LLB 2. The script- and character-centric film is really not good enough for new age cinema so will find it difficult to navigate through this weekend with a good report.
It is a romantic comedy with three characters – the couple Taapsee and Amit (Nimmi and Bharose) and Arsh Bajwa (Cyberjeet) start a new website called Running Shaadi which helps couples in Amritsar elope with their lovers. Critics have said that Nimmi’s character is well-crafted but also there is disjointed screenplay and editing which weighs the film down. Shoojit Sircar has produced the film and hence critics have tried to go a little deep into the film, where Pannu is mostly depicting Jab We Met’s Geet. Some have said that Nimmi is only different from Geet because she is more independent and unapologetic.

The film starts with a teenage Nimmi wanting to have an abortion, unapologetic. A topic which is not often seen in Bollywood films, this is the only selling point of the film. Issues like inter-caste marriage, gay marriage, inter-class marriage are dealt with subtly, when people approach Running Shaadi for their marriage. Seeing the people of Amritsar being typecast is also something entertaining about the film.
