After a slew of underperforming films this week we see the release of two starkly different films, ‘Roy’ and ‘MSG: The Messenger of God’ whose box office collections journey is expected to take starkly different routes. While the first features Ranbir Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez and Arjun Rampal, the latter features Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan (Guru ji), who incidentally has a massive following of devotees in northern territories. As expected reports suggest that Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Roy’ has shot off to a good start, with opening box office collections at Rs 10.40 crore. The movie had started with a 50 pct occupancy rate in the early shows, while MSG, which opened in the gentry segment in northern territories, is picking up speed, but at a slower pace. Overall, Roy is expected to post massive opening day box office collections, but will have to rely heavily on good word of mouth to post equally good weekend collections. On the other hand, MSG is expected to pick up over evening and night shows, with Guruji’s ardent followers seeming to appreciate the film, while others are looking to see what all the fuss is about – anything controversial indubitably draws crowds to theatres in droves.

Having said, the content of both ‘Roy’ and ‘MSG’ movies is oceans apart.
After a spat with the Censor Board, MSG: The Messenger released in more than 4,000 screens across the country on Friday. On Thursday night, ardent followers had gathered at PVR cinema in Select Citywalk in the Capital for an exclusive premiere of “Guruji’s movie”.
