Raees vs Dangal box office collections: Shahrukh Khan’s turn as Gujarat bootlegger got him many comparisons to Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil in terms of box office revenue. But how does SRK compare to Aamir Khan’s Dangal? A look at their first few days of the films provides some clue as to whether Shahrukh can challenge Aamir’s box office supremacy.
Opening day: There’s almost a Rs 10 crore difference between the two films. Raees took home Rs 20.42 crore, while Dangal raked in Rs 29.78 crore, according to a report in Bollywood Hungama. Factors that account for the difference included demonetisation – as audiences were still getting used to the digital lifestyle when Dangal was released. Raees came out on Wednesday as opposed to Dangal’s Friday release.
Opening weekend: Within three days, Aamir entered the 100 Crore Club with Rs 107.01 by Sunday night. Shahrukh Khan was a few crores shy of reaching the club at Rs 93.24 crore, even though Raees had five days to reach the mark.
Week 1 earnings: Aamir ended his week on a triumphant note at Rs 197.54 crore, Shahrukh, on the other hand, stood at Rs 122.36 crore. In the first week, Dangal’s lowest box office earning was Rs 18.59 crore, while Raees’ was Rs 4 crore.
Second weekend: Dangal’s earnings picked up over the second weekend again with Rs 55.11 crore, while Raees scored Rs 8.75 crore.
End of week 2 earnings: By the end of the second week, Dangal had entered the 300 Crore Club with Rs 313.5 crore. Raees took home almost half of that with Rs 137.71 crore. The gap between their lowest earning days narrowed with Dangal getting only Rs 6.66 crore on its second Friday and Raees earning Rs 4 crore on its second Saturday.
