Padmaavat box office collection day 1: Sanjay Leela Bhansali film has hit the screens in both domestic and overseas market and the numbers are here to tell the tale. Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor starrer has been through major ups and downs over its content and continue to be lashed in the political landscape. But amid these protests, the hype around the film has not gone down anywhere. Padmaavat found itself in the eye of Karni Sena glare because they were of the opinion that the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film has distorted historical facts. The film released worldwide on January 25 and in the Australian box office, the film earned 275,612 USD which is equivalent to Rs 1.74 cr in the domestic market. The film had released on 62 screens in Australia. In New Zealand, the film has earned 44,354 USD which is equivalent Rs 28.15 lakh in the domestic market. The film in New Zealand had released on 23 screens.
Based on the Sufi poem written by Malik Muhammad Jayasi Padmaavat is story about Rani Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji, who was reportedly obsessed with the beauty of the queen. Though Sanjay Leela Bhansali has tried hard and did his best to glorify the Rajputs, he missed out on making the film compelling and hard-hitting and down the line, you feel that the meat is lost somewhere. But despite the flaws in the narrative, Bhansali’s magnum opus is a treat. The critics who have watched the film are of the opinion that the film contains nothing that could hurt the Rajput sentiments and culture. The stellar cinematography, production design, costumes and camera work deserve special mention in the film.
Despite of receiving a green signal from the Supreme Court, Padmaavat makers are having a hard time screening the film in many theatres. The protests have taken an ugly shape and things turned worse when a school bus carrying students was pelted with stones by a group of people protesting against the release of the film two days back. If this continues, in the long run, this may prove to be fatal for its box office collection. Does it have any luck in the overseas market will be something to watch out for.
