Akshay Kumar starrer PadMan, which opened to positive reviews on February 9, has slowed down in its second week. The movie has so far been able to pocket a little over Rs 68 crore, an amount that seems a bit low in a time when every A-list star movie is expected to mint at least 100 crore at the box-office. A report by Bollywood Hungama suggests that the movie won’t be able to cross the coveted Rs 100 crore mark despite the fact that it was a great concept and Akshay Kumar’s brand value is also attached to it.
The film, however, continues to be ‘steady at lower levels’ at the box office, reported trade analyst Taran Adarsh. Adarsh posted an update on the film’s collection at last count in his tweet, which read: PadMan is steady at lower levels… [Week 2] Friday 2.10 crore, Saturday 3.15 crore. Total: Rs. 68.12 crore. India biz.” Akshay Kumar’s PadMan, which was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 90 crore, is a bit short of achieving its cost even. The film hasn’t managed to keep up to the expectations of Bollywood. In fact, according to Hungama, PadMan will end its business at somwehere between Rs 75 cr to Rs 80 cr mark.
PadMan is based on the real-life story of social entrepreneur Arunachalam Muruganantham, who manufactured affordable sanitary napkins for the women of his village. The R Balki-directed film, which also stars Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor, is produced by Akshay’s wife Twinkle Khanna. The movie, although not a commercial success has been a critical success and may as well bring a National Award for Akshay Kumar, going by the Bollywood Hungama report.
Akshay Kumar is currently busy with projects like 2.0 also starring Rajikanth, Gold with Farhan Akhtar and Amit Sadh, and Karan Johar’s Kesari.
