PadMan box office collection: Akshay Kumar starrer PadMan was released on February 9 and after a slow opening, the money graph has risen significantly. Over the weekend the movie earned over Rs 40 crore. Yes, that is surprising, considering the slow start, but with Padmaavat still in theatres, this is a solid achievement for R Balki and company. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter today and posted the weekend earnings of the movie. He said,’#PadMan showed GOOD TRENDING over the weekend… Starting on ordinary levels, the momentum over the weekend helped put up a credible total… Word of mouth is strong… Weekdays are crucial… Fri 10.26 cr, Sat 13.68 cr, Sun 16.11 cr. Total: ₹ 40.05 cr. India biz.” The release date of the movie was postponed due to Padmaavat to avoid clash of 2 big movies at the BO. Padmaavat director Sanjay Leela Bhansali in a press conference had requested Akshay Kumar and other filmmakers for postponing the release date of PadMan.
The story has been inspired by the life of Arunachalam Muruganatham a social activist from Tamil Nadu. It was Muruganatham who revolutionized the concept of personal hygiene during the menstrual cycle in rural India by creating low-cost sanitary pads.
The movie is set in rural Madhya Pradesh, where Lakshmikant Chouhan (Akshay) is a mechanic by profession and a loving and devoted husband to Gayatri (Radhika Apte). He is a caring hubby and looks to ensure that his wife leads a comfortable life by introducing small inventions to enhance her daily life.
However when he learns of the stigma and taboos related to menstruation and the unhygienic methods used by women during this period, he embarks on a mission to make affordable sanitary pads.
Cinematographer PC Sreeram’s camera work is definitely commendable as he brings out the very minute background details out of his frame. He captures the locales in all its glory. Also, Amit Trivedi’s music is effective and it does add that extra to for the public.
