Akshay Kumar starrer PadMan was not able to earn big on Monday. The movie’s earning as compared to Friday, Saturday and Sunday was way too low. However, trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter and said that the movie has maintained its pace which gave hope of a change in fortunes. Adarsh also gave the earning of overseas opening weekend which was quite impressive. PadMan collection overseas was Rs 14.84 crore. He said,”#PadMan maintains its pace on Mon… Fri 10.26 cr, Sat 13.68 cr, Sun 16.11 cr, Mon 5.87 cr. Total: ₹ 45.92 cr. India biz… Overseas opening weekend: $ 2.31 million [₹ 14.84 cr].”
The movie is based on the social stigma that is attached to menstruation cycle. PadMan is inspired by the real-life story of Arunachalam Muruganantham who brought about a revolution in the country with his low-cost machines which were able to manufacture cheap and affordable sanitary napkins for the weaker sections of the society.
Interestingly, this is not the first time Akshay Kumar has tried to bring movies related to social issues into the mainstream cinema. He impressed everyone in 2017 with Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, which earned over Rs 200 crore and the same was expected from PadMan too.
Meanwhile, a Surat-based couple organised a special screening of PadMan to spread the message on menstrual cycle for 125 women in Surat’s slum. The couple, also known as the “Pad Couple” has been helping women living in backward areas by providing 5000 pads every month for the last five years. Meena Mehta said that they decided to organise the screening of the movie to make the women realise the importance of using pads.
