Padmaavat box office collection: Deepika Padukone and Sanjay Leela Bhansali as well as Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor have gone through a lot before seeing the light of day but despite the grievous challenges the film has managed to make a brow-raising sum on the preview shows held on Wednesday, January 24. Padmaavat has managed to collect Rs 5 cr in these preview shows held in certain theatres in the metros. Taran Adarsh tweeting about the films preview collections wrote, ” Despite challenges and extremely limited preview shows [which commenced in evening], #Padmaavat collects ₹ 5 cr in previews screenings on Wed.” This should not be regarded as a small sum since the show commenced in the evening amidst a lot of protests and was still able to attract crowds to the theatres.
For Friday, it is estimated that Padmaavat could manage an occupancy rate of as much as 75 pct on the opening day which could lead it to garner Rs 35 cr approximately (day 1). The film has been released in 4800 screens across India, according to reports, but it is not clear how many of them pulled back at the last moment. Padmaavat has received mixed reviews from critics and everybody has been praising its visual extravagance. Based on the Sufi poem written by Malik Muhammad Jayasi Padmaavat is story about Rani Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji who was reportedly obsessed with the beauty of the queen. Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor have aced their roles and put up a gripping almost 3-hour long saga.
But things turned sour due to the Karni Sena’s violent protests, which showed no signs of abating. Padmaavat, since its shooting, has had to deal with the wrath of the Karni Sena. From being subjected to assault to being given death threats, the Padmaavat makers have seen it all. We only hope that at the end of the day Padmaavat overcomes the challenges and passes the test of time!
