Padmaavat box office collection: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Padmaavat might have had a very delayed release amid a torrid controversy, but that hasn’t stopped the movie from going strong at the box office. The Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh starrer is not only inching towards a Rs 200 crore mark in its India box office collection but is also rocking the screens overseas.
According to a Bollywood Hungama report, the film has been able to mint Rs 26.79 lacs (41,847 USD) in Australia on Day 8. In New Zealand, it has collected Rs. 6.71 lacs (10,495 USD) till today. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted,”Had it been a smooth, all-India release, #Padmaavat would’ve comfortably crossed ₹ 200 cr in its [extended] Week 1… The film lost out on [approx] ₹ 50 cr+ due to no-screening in few states + protests… Its international biz is REMARKABLE [esp North America and Australia]…”.
In Australia, on January 26, Ranveer Singh starrer was released on 70 screens and bagged over Rs 1 crore, the Bollywood Hungama report added. Meanwhile, in the US, Padmavat has earned over Rs 4 crore. The movie generated a record $4.4 million over its three-day debut period in North America and $4.9 million in the first four days, setting a new record in itself. The period drama is now playing in 326 theatres across the US and Canada in 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D formats. “Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much-anticipated movie broke the record for the all-time biggest opening weekend for any Bollywood film in North America grossing $4.4 million over its three-day Friday-to-Sunday debut period and $4.9 million over the four-day Thursday-to-Sunday span,” Box Office Guru had earlier said in a statement. The previous record was held by Aamir Khan’s 2014 film “PK”, which had an opening weekend of $3.6 million over three days. Aamir’s 2016 blockbuster “Dangal” held the extended opening weekend record with $4.1 million over its first five days, which “Padmaavat” also beat, the release read.
Meanwhile, Padmaavat has become Deepika Padukone’s seventh film to enter the famed Rs 100 crore club, the highest by any leading lady. Other films include Happy New Year, Bajirao Mastani, Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela, Race 2, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani and Chennai Express had achieved the same feat.
