Padmaavat, starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor, has earned $20 million overseas at the close of the second week. It has surpassed Salman Khan starrer Tiger Zinda Hai. Padmaavat is now the 10th highest all-time overseas grosser. The top spot is secured by Aamir Khan, Zaira Wasim starrer Dangal which has earned $230.08 million and is followed by yet another ‘Mr Perfectionist’ starrer Secret Superstar. Secret Superstar earned $ 97.75 million. At the third position is PK, yet another Aamir Khan starrer. It bagged $47.2 million while it was followed by Dhoom 3 for the fourth position. The third instalment of Dhoom franchise earned $ 31.1 million. At fifth spot is Salman Khan starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan which earned $ 29 million overseas.
Notably, the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed movie in Australia has become the highest grosser of all time. It earned Rs 13.58 crore in the island nation leaving behind Baahubali 2, Dangal, Tiger Zinda Hai amongst others.
The Sanjay Leela Bhansali magnum opus is expected to cross Rs 200-mark with Sunday’s collections. The film released after much difficulty on January 25 and has completed over two weeks at the box office. The film stars Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji and Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote, “#Padmaavat shows MASSIVE JUMP on Sat… Will cross ₹ 200 cr today [Sun]… Is already SLB, Ranveer and Shahid’s HIGHEST GROSSER… Will be Deepika’s HIGHEST GROSSER once it crosses #ChennaiExpress… [Week 2] Fri 10 cr, Sat 16 cr. Total: ₹ 192.50 cr. India biz.”
Meanwhile, the Mumbai faction of Karni Sena on Friday announced that it is ending its protest against Padmaavat. However, the fringe group’s chief Lokendra Singh Kalvi on Saturday declared that his outfit is the “real Karni Sena” and that its protests against the film would continue.
