Padmaavat box office collection day 5: Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus Padmaavat has been storming the box-office with its steady performance. The film which has already crossed Rs 100 crore may soon touch the figure of Rs 200 crore.
Leaving behind the widespread protests by political fringe groups, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Padmaavat Box Office Collection on Day 5 continued to do very well indeed. In fact, the film is performing exceptionally well at the BO. Significantly, the movie’s collections haven’t slipped much from its opening day, collecting Rs 14 crore on Monday. The film’s sensational box office figures are a proof of its phenomenal success even though it’s release was restricted as many theatre owners feared being targetted by the fringe groups. The movie which opened with a collection of Rs 19 crore last Thursday has been maintaining a figure around Rs 15 crore since its release. As per the report, the current overall collections of the film stand at Rs 128 crore.
Notably, after opening at Rs 19 crore on Thursday, the movie quickly picked pace on Friday with a humongous collection of Rs 32 crore and its graph has been on the upswing ever since. On its first Sunday, Padmaavat continued its winning streak and made Rs 31 crore. In international markets too, Padmaavat’s performance has been exceptional. Its Saturday collection in North America was reported to be the highest ever for a Hindi film. In Australia too, it has crossed the lifetime business of previous hits like Bajirao Mastani, Dilwale, Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai, as per a tweet by Box-Office analyst Taran Adarsh.
The film, starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, and Ranveer Singh, is based on the 16th century epic, “Padmaavat” by poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi. The film faced controversy after various Rajput groups accused Bhansali of “distorting historical facts” with the portrayal of queen Padmavati, a claim repeatedly denied by him.
The film was released on January 25 after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) cleared it last month with a ‘U/A’ certificate and five modifications, including title change from “Padmavati” to “Padmaavat”. In the coming days, Padmaavat may well create history with record Bollywood figures as the movie-goers are going gaga over Ranveer Singh’s performance as the anti-hero Alauddin Khilji, Deepika Padukone’s potrayal of Rani Padmavati and Shahid Kapoor’s performance as Maharawal Ratan Singh.
