Oscars 2017 Winner Predictions: In the best actor category, there is a direct competition between Ryan Gosling and Casey Affleck.
The 89th Academy Awards will be held in Los Angeles on Monday morning and just like every other year, this year too there is a tough competition for the top trophies. Even though 2016 was highly dominated by Superhero and fantasy flicks like Captain America: Civil War, Batman vs Superman, Deadpool, Doctor Strange and Fantastic Beasts, classics like La La Land and Manchester by the Sea made their presence felt getting love from both critics and viewers. Out of the nine films nominated in the best picture category, La La Land is certainly the front-runner with 14 nominations to its name but Oscars are always full of surprises. Last year, Spotlight won just two awards and out of that one was for the best film and this year too, La La Land will face tough competition from Arrival, Manchester by the Sea, Hacksaw Ridge and Hell or High Water but Moonlight can also emerge as the dark horse.
In the best actor category, there is a direct competition between Ryan Gosling and Casey Affleck. Thet both were so brilliant in their respective roles that even Andrew Garfield was shocked to hear about his nomination. Veteran, Denzel Washington also earned a nomination this year for his brilliant performance in Fences. In the leading actress category Meryl Streep earned a record 21st Oscar nomination and if she goes on to win that trophy, you can expect a lot of Donald Trump remarks on stage. Her closest competition would be Emma Stone.

Amongst the directors, there is a lot of buzz around Damien Chazelle for creating a magnificent world in the La La Land but Denis Villeneuve is also a strong contender for Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner starring sci-fi drama Arrival. Mel Gibson’s World War drama about a soldier who saves 75 men in Okinawa without firing a single bullet was also received well critically making him another contender for the best director of the year.
