Here are the live updates from the 2017 Oscar Awards:

11:00: La La Land wins six awards, including Best Director and Best Actress. Moonlight emerged as the numero uno movie as it bags Best Picture award. Mahershala Ali scripted history by becoming the first Muslim Actor to win Best Actor in Supporting Role for his movie Moonlight.

10:39 am: Moonlight wins Best Picture award.

10:36 am: A moment like this is a huge confluence of luck and opportunity, says Emma Stone.

10:30 am: Emma Stone wins best Actress in a Leading role for her movie La La Land.

10:28 am: I am really proud to be a part of this community, says Casey Affleck after winning Best Actor award.

10:22 am: Casey Affleck wins Best Actor in a Leading Role for his movie Manchester by the Sea.

10:20 am: This was a movie about love, and I was lucky enough to fall in love while making it, says Damien Chazelle, director of La La Land.

10:03 am: Manchester by the Sea wins Original Screenplay award.

9:49 am: City of Stars from La La Land wins Original Song award, fourth of the night.

9:44 am: La La Land bags its third awards, wins Original Score.

9:29 am: La La Land wins award for Best Cinematography. Linus Sandgreen is the winner.

9:18 am: Award for Best Live Action Short goes to Sing.

9:12 am: The White Helmets wins Academy Award for best Documentary-Short.

9:07 am: Best Film Editing award goes to Hacksaw Ridge.

9:03 am: The Jungle Book wins Academy Awards for visual Effects.

8:53 am: La La Land wins best award for Production Design.

8:48 am: Actor Gael Garcia Bernal takes a jibe at US President Donald Trump, saying ‘as an Immigrant’ he is against building ‘wall’.

8:43 am: Zootopia wins best Animated Feature.

8:42 am: Award for Best Animated Short film goes to Piper.

8:40 am: Filmmakers can turn their cameras to capture shared human qualities and break stereotypes of various nationalities and religions, says Asghar Farhadi, director of The Salesman.

8:31 am: Award for Best Foreign Language Film goes to Iranian movie The Salesman.

8:25 am: Viola Davis breaks down while delivering her acceptance speech, she won the Best Supporting Actress award.

8:15 am: Viola Davis wins Best Actress in a Supporting Role for ‘Fences’.

8:05 am: All creative artists around the world are connected by an unbreakable bond that is powerful and permanent, says Cheryl Boone Isaacs, President of The Academy.

8:01 am: Best Award for Sound Mixing goes to Kevin O’Connell, Andy Wright, Robert Mackenzie and Peter Grace for ‘Hacksaw Ridge‘.

7:57 am: Award for Sound Editing goes to Sylvain Bellemare for Arrival.

7:42 am: Award for Best Documentary Feature goes to O.J.: Made in America produced by Ezra Edelman, Caroline Waterlow.

7:34 am: Best Costume Design award goes to Colleen Atwood for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

7:29 am: Alessandro Bertolazzi, Giorgio Gregorini, Christopher Nelson win Makeup and Hairstyling for the movie Suicide Squad.

7:27 am: It’s not about you, it’s about these characters, says Mahershala Ali.

7:21 am: First award goes to Mahershala Ali for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his film Moonlight.

7:15 am: Justin Timberlake kicks off the ceremony.

7:05 am: Actor Priyanka Chopra arrives at the Oscars Red Carpet, dressed in a Ralph & Russo gown.

6:40 AM: Dwayne Johnson enters the red carpet.

6:10 AM: In walks Emma Stone, who is nominated for the Best Actress category for the movie “La La Land”.

6:00 AM: Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra is spotted for the first time. Though she hasn’t been nominated in any category, she has starred in series Quantico and Baywatch.

5:40 AM: Dev Patel makes his entry into the red carpet. He is nominated as the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ for the movie ‘Lion’.

5:30 AM: Singer Justin Timberlake makes his entry to the red carpet accompanied by his wife.

5:20 AM: Movie Lion’s child actor Sunny Pawar walked the red carpet wearing a tuxedo with trainers.

While star Jackie Chan entered the red carpet with two stuffed ‘panda toys’. He told that they represent his real pandas, one of them being called Lazy. Likewise, Jackie is drawing more celebrities to take picture with him.

The 89th Academy Awards are being held at the Dolby Theatres, Los Angeles. Some of the biggest names in Hollywood including Ryan Gosling, Casey Affleck, Emma Stone, Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep and Mel Gibson will be hoping to win the prestigious trophy in various categories. This year’s list of best movies includes Arrival, Fences, Hacksaw Ridge, Hell or High Water, Hidden Figures, La La Land, Lion, Manchester by the Sea and Moonlight. This year there will be a direct contest between Ryan Gosling and Casey Affleck for the best actor in a leading role category while legendary actress Meryl Streep will be challenged by Emma Stone and Natalie Portman for the actress in a leading role. As far as Indian fans are considered, all eyes will be on Dev Patel who has been nominated for the best actor in a supporting role for his movie, Lion.

This year’s event will be hosted by comedian and TV host Jimmy Kimmel who has hosted two Emmy Awards and a VMA in the past. Last year, Chris Rock started the event by joking about how no one watches the movies that get nominated for the Oscars and this year’s ceremony can have a lot of Donald Trump jokes and puns.
