Newton box office collection day 2: Amid the highlighted release of Shraddha Kapoor’s Haseena Parker, the presence of Rajkumar Rao starrer Newton in the list of new films to hit theatres this Friday has come as a surprise. It can be clearly stated that before the release of Newton, the talk about the movie was minimal. But it got a boost when probably the news surfaced of its selection as India’s official entry for The Oscars this year. The movie hit the silver screen on Friday and witnessed a decent growth in the evening and night shows that brought a total collection of Rs 96 lakh for the film. However, the Oscar buzz does not seem to have helped it become a BO office leader even though it would certainly have added to its earnings considerably. But it was just a start and movie had more to go in its kitty. On the second day of its release, it improved its business by over 150 percent. According to movie critic and business analyst Taran Adarsh, the film earned Rs 2.52 crore on Saturday that totaled its BO collections to Rs 3.48 crore. “#Newton shows REMARKABLE 162.5% GROWTH on Sat… Fri 96 lakhs, Sat 2.52 cr. Total: Rs 3.48 cr. India biz.” posted Adarsh.

This Aamit Masurkar directorial is a dark comedy, in which Rajkumar Rao is featured in the titular role of an earnest government clerk who wants to conduct a free and fair election in a conflict-hit area of Chhattisgarh. After Bareilly Ki Barfi, which did not go well at the box office, Rajkumar Rao is enjoying the achievements of Newton. Talking to The Indian Express on the selection of the movie for The Oscars, he said that he was elated and super thrilled. He called it “huge” and said to be very happy to represent India at the Award. He hoped that the film makes to the final list. He was further enthralled with the response of the public. According to him, they made the movie with a lot of passion, sincerity and honesty, and people are recognizing that sincerity.
