Movie critic and business analyst Taran Adarsh termed the collection of the film ‘wonderful’. He took to Twitter to share the numbers that the film had collected. He wrote, “#Newton had a WONDERFUL Week 1… The SUPER growth over the weekend and STEADY trending on weekdays helped put up a GOOD total…” In another post he wrote, “#Newton Fri 96 lakhs, Sat 2.52 cr, Sun 3.42 cr, Mon 1.31 cr, Tue 1.34 cr, Wed 1.18 cr, Thu 1.10 cr. Total: ₹ 11.83 cr. India biz.” Earlier in the week after the end of Day 5 of the film, Taran Adarsh shared the numbers of the five days of the film and said, “#Newton jumps again… Tue bigger than Mon… Fri 96 lakhs, Sat 2.52 cr, Sun 3.42 cr, Mon 1.31 cr, Tue 1.34 cr. Total: ₹ 9.55 cr. India biz.”
Newton on its opening day had earned only Rs 96 Lakh, which accounted for a very low opening, but subsequently, it did better maybe because of the word of mouth publicity. The film’s Oscar nomination has also placed a great role in the growth of the movies collection from Day 1 to Day 7. Newton hot the theatres on September 22, it was selected as India’s entry into the Oscars overnight. Newton is not centric to the lead actor as all the characters in the film have been written substantially to build the story. It shows the real issues of insurgency-hit Chhattisgarh area.
After being selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars 2018, it was sure that the box office collection was going to be affected for good. Whether it wins the Oscars scheduled for March 4, 2018, in Los Angeles will be something to watch out for.
