The Akshay Kumar and Taapsee Pannu starrer ‘Naam Shabana’ after much talk and hype finally hit the screens on Friday and secured a good box office collection. On the first day of its release, the female-centric flick earned Rs 5.12 crore in India from 2,100 screens across the nation. Though the movie directed by Shivam Nair opened on an average note with occupancy rates during morning shows being pegged at 15 percent, its evening shows got a boost due to Akshay Kumar’s star power and attracted more viewers leading to contributing in the collection of the movie. The overseas box office collection of the movie settled at Rs 5.19 lakhs in Australia and Rs 69,010 in New Zealand where it was released in 18 screens and three screens respectively, reported Bollywood Hungama.

Naam Shabana, which is an action thriller, is a prequel to Akshay Kumar’s Baby released in 2015. The movie has featured Taapsee Pannu in a key role and had placed her firmly on the Bollywood map. However, trade analyst Taran Adarsh stated the film got a boost due to Akshay’s star power on his Twitter account. “#NaamShabana gets a boost due to Akshay’s star power… Evening shows fare better… Fri ₹ 5.12 cr. He appreciated the effort of Pannu but called the movie “missed the bus”, as it lack the bite and punch of Baby and weak script. “Taapsee is terrific in #NaamShabana… But the film lacks the bite and punch of #Baby. Engaging in parts only… Writing plays spoilsport…” tweeted Adarsh. Meanwhile, he appreciated the acting of Manoj Bajpayee and Prithviraj. “Manoj Bajpayee, Prithviraj are super. Akshay interval point intro fantastic…” posted Adarsh.

The movie is predicted to earn Rs 12-15 crore in the first weekend and Rs 24-28 crore overall, according to Bollywood Hungama.
