Mohenjo Daro box office collections: Looking back, for Hrithik Roshan, this movie may turn out to be just another forgettable experience. It need not have been that. In fact, it could even have been a qualified success, even turned into a Rs 100 cr movie. Now, it will not do that. And the thing to be blamed is the shallow content of the movie. And yes, Akshay Kumar’s Rustom too. The fact that they released simultaneously sealed Mohenjo Daro’s fate at least. Hrithik must be pondering about not being able to come to an understanding with Rustom filmmakers for a separate release. So much water under the bridge now. The film also stars Pooja Hegde and is directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and it is based on the Indus Valley civilization – it is a fictional recreation.
Mohenjo Daro collections were shocking on day 1 and did not manage to rise to the occasion on day 2. It was not well into the weekend that Hrithik Roshan starrer managed to get some traction and its saviour came in the form of Independence Day holiday. Were it not for this, the movie would have become a real embarrassment for the superstar as well as the filmmakers. The public holiday allowed people to to go and check out what this long-time-in-coming movie from Hrithik was all about. The content – story, script, theme – sadly, was too shallow, too unbelievable and really not something that will draw millions of people to theatres.

Mohenjo Daro box office collections from day 1 do not make for great reading. Hrithik Roshan starrer barely bothered the cashiers. On Friday the collection was Rs 8.87 cr, and this was followed by Rs 9.60 crore, Rs 12.07 cr, Rs 10.36 cr, for an India total of Rs 40.90 cr by Monday. Hardly the stuff legends are made of. In fact, far from it. With the world tally added, the total rises to Rs 75.82 cr. In contrast, Akshay Kumar’s Rustom has collected Rs 68.23 cr in India alone and a total of Rs 94.76 cr worldwide in same 4-day period.
Mohenjo Daro producers may well recover the amount spent on the movie, but that is not what the game is all about. Right now, if there was any competition to the 3 Khans, then that was in the form of Akshay and Hrithik. Now, while Akshay keeps adding to his growing stature with standout content, Hrithik has done nothing but harm to his image. This will leave a huge vacuum at the top that does not look like it is going to get filled by any other newcomer. Which, in turn, means, Akshay is left fighting the good battle on his own. Considering the great movies Hrithik has churned out in the past, where Mohenjo Daro came from will be an eternal mystery.
As far as Mohenjo Daro collection prediction is concerned, the die has already been cast. It is clear from the collections themselves that there is hardly any word-of-mouth booster shot received by the movie. And the reason behind it is that whoever has seen it, has nothing great to say about it. That leaves those who would have lent a willing ear, in no mood to make the trip to the theatre. This movie is not going anywhere, but down.
