Lucknow Central box office collection day 1: From Rock On to Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Farhan Akhtar has always given his utmost and BO success has not always followed. This is very much the case with Lucknow Central. Released on Friday, the film reportedly had a disastrous opening with a meager 12 pct occupancy rate in its morning shows. It further seemed unable to attract the audience to venture into theatres in the evening shows either as it has collected only Rs 2.04 crore on its opening day. “#LucknowCentral Fri Rs 2.04 cr. India biz… Growth on Sat and Sun is crucial,” shared movie critic and business analyst Taran Adarsh. But was Lucknow Central expected to do very well at the BO. The answer is not really. Expectations from the movie were average and that is exactly how it has panned out. Disappointing? Yes, simply because Farhan Akhtar is starring in it and there is a huge surge of expectancy from anything he does.
Lucknow Central, which also features Diana Penty, Deepak Dobriyal and Ronit Roy in important roles, did little to no promotion in the run-up to its release which could also be one of the reasons behind its poor start. Moreover, the film has also received bad reviews. According to Taran Adarsh, the film is not interesting. In his one word review, the business analyst called it “uninteresting” and gave only 2 stars. In an another tweet, he praised the performances in the film but criticised the screenwriting and music. “#LucknowCentral has wonderful performances… However, the screenwriting appeals only in bits and spurts… Music doesn’t work either”

The story of the film revolves around an aspiring singer Kishan Mohan Girhotra (Farhan Akhtar) who is framed for the murder of an IAS officer in his hometown Moradabad. When he is sent to Lucknow Central jail, he finds out that IGP (Virendra Saxena) has asked for a band to be formed in Lucknow Central comprising of a group of prisoners. This provides Kishan with an opportunity to live his dream once again. He ropes in Victor Chattopadhyay (Deepak Dobriyal), Parminder Singh Gill (Gippy Grewal), Purushottam Madan Pandit (Rajesh Sharma) and Liyakat Ansari (Inaamulhaq) for this adventure.
After a below average opening of the film, will it emerge as the leader in its fight with the other Friday release? Unlikely. And that is so despite the fact that Kangana Ranaut starrer has started on a disastrous note too. Much will now depend on word of mouth boost.
