Courtesy comedian Kapil Sharma, ‘Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon’ box office collections got off to a great start with occupancy rate in theatres logged at 50% on day 1 – a holiday due to Eid. As expected, the box office collections on Friday jumped immediately into double figures at Rs 10.15 crore. The trajectory on days 2 and 3 was not as high, but they continued almost apace. However, on Tuesday the take dived by half as the crowds thinned at the theatres.

This is Kapil Sharma’s Bollywood debut and he seems to have got a big dollop of beginner’s luck. Reports from across the country had suggested that ‘Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon’ started on a very good note and that it will continue to do so through the week.

Indeed, the collections for Kapil Sharma starrer are massive, considering he is making a leap from TV to Bollywood. To put things in perspective, established and ‘saleable’ stars like Kangana Ranaut and Imran Khan’s ‘Katti Batti had an occupancy rate of around 30-35%, while Salman Khan produced ‘Hero’, which starred Sooraj Pancholi and was heavily marketed, managed an occupancy rate of 35-40%. This week’s other release, the aptly-named ‘Calendar Girls’ managed just 20%.

First day’s take must have created a lot of joy for the filmmakers, but on day 2 (Saturday), they must have been apprehensive about the future as  the collections retreated a little and were clocked at Rs 8.60 crore. But the fear proved to be short-lived.

On day 3 (Sunday) ‘Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon’ earnings again soared into double figures at Rs 10.06 crore. On day 4, the crowds at theatres thinned suddenly and as a result the take dropped dramatically to Rs 4.5 crore.

The total 4-day domestic take climbs now to Rs 33.31 crore. And if we add the foreign collections to the total, the figure soars to a whopping Rs 40.33 crore. This is courtesy the huge collections in some of the foreign markets with the UAE at Rs 4.48 crore, US is at Rs 90.17 lakh, Canada contributed Rs 44.31 lakh, UK Rs 73.19 lakhs and other markets like Australia padded it up further.

‘Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon’ box office collections received a huge boost due to its release on ‘Eid’ holiday. Saturday and Sunday made for an extended weekend and this also lured people to theatres in large numbers.

The film opened well in not just metros but also in smaller centers, which indicates that it has attracted multiplex as well as single screen audiences. This romantic comedy opened to packed houses at several theaters and it seems the negative reviews from critics have not hampered the opening day occupancy rate of the film. And with negative reviews being ignored by audiences, the film is receiving a good word-of-mouth boost too.

The movie has also received received help in the form of its rival release Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Calendar Girls’. This movie is targetted at mature audiences, leaving the rest of the movie-going public with little choice than to watch Kapil Sharma – ‘Calendar Girls’ is filled with bikini-clad women, the film looks to have lacked depth and reportedly has not fared well on day 1.

Kapil Sharma’s comedy flick is directed by Abbas Mustan and is a family entertainer although bizarrely, it features a man who has to handle 3 wives and a girlfriend simultaneously! But then, with Kapil Sharma, you always have to expect the unexpected.
