Kaalakaandi box office collection: Saif Ali Khan’s extreme desire to break his 2017 jinx looks like a dream, rather, a nightmare now! It has become a bridge too far and certainly would be painful for the star and the filmmakers. Kaalkaandi, which hit the screens with a promise to start Bollywood on a great note in 2018 is evidently going nowhere. The film, on the fifth day, has earned Rs 70 lakh on day 5. The film so far has earned Rs 5.30 cr. Taran Adarsh tweeting about the film’s collection wrote, ” Kaalakaandi Fri 1.25 cr, Sat 1.20 cr, Sun 1.40 cr, Mon 75 lakhs, Tue 70 lakhs. Total: ₹ 5.30 cr. India biz.” Saif Ali Khan after the release of Rangoon and Chef wanted to make a comeback with Kaalkaandi which seemed to be a breath of fresh air (at least from the trailers). But all hell broke lose when nothing could save Kaalkaandi from its nemesis. The film had a hype around not just because of the lead actor but also because it was the directorial debut of Akshat Verma who had earlier worked as the scriptwriter for the film Delhi Belly.
After the brilliance of Delhi Belly what we expected of Akshat was to repeat the similar success in Kaalakaandi as well. However, if you hit theatres with these high expectations, then there might be a little disappointment in store for you. Akshat tried hard to get there and the effort is quite evident, but its nothing like Delhi Belly. Based on a man (Saif Ali Khan), who one fine day, is diagnosed with stomach cancer and how he let’s himself lose even as he faces the reality of death. The protagonist goes through various life-altering encounters and comes across equally amusing people, which helps in building up the story.
Kaalakaandi had released with films like 1921 and Mukkabaaz. Though formerly it was predicted that the film will be a breather for Saif Ali Khan who was desperately longing for one. But tables turned when 1921 and Mukkabaaz took a lead over this film which came as a real shocker for all. Is it that the Nawab of Bollywood has lost his charm? Let’s hope not!
