Kaalakaandi box office collection Day 3: Saif Ali Khan starrer Kaalakaandi was supposed to give a boost to his troubled career after two back to back flop films like Rangoon and Chef. But seems like this Akshat Verma directorial is doing no good for the actor. The film, however, has failed to imprint itself on the mind of the people. On day 3, Kaalakaandi has managed to earn Rs 3.85. Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter and said,”Kaalakaandi Fri Rs 1.25 cr, Sat Rs 1.20 cr, Sun Rs 1.40 cr. Total: Rs 3.85 cr. India biz..” Kaalakaandi on an opening day has collected a mere Rs 1.25. crore. According to early prediction, it was being anticipated that the film can make anything between Rs 3-4 cr due to star presence and exciting trailer. but the film failed to live up to the prediction and started off real slow.
The film is based on a man (Saif Ali Khan) who one fine day is diagnosed with stomach cancer. How he deals with this traumatic situation is what the film is all about. Deciding to let loose soon after he encounters the news the protagonist goes through varied motions and comes across equally amusing people which builds up the story. Verma who makes his directorial debut with the film had earlier worked as the scriptwriter for the film Delhi Belly. The film also features Deepak Dobriyal, Kunal Roy Kapur, actress Sobhita Dhulipala besides Saif. After the brilliance of Delhi Belly what we expected of Akshat was to repeat the similar success with Kaalakaandi as well. But to our dismay, the film rarely stands up to the magnificence of what Delhi Belly was.
The other films which released on the same day have not been able to perform well at the box office. Since the film has failed to take up a headstart, it clearly proves the promotional strategy was not good enough since hardly people turned out to witness the film inspite of Saif Ali Khan’s presence. The worst part is that the film has failed to receive good reviews. This has further affected the business of the film.
