Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, actress-politician Hema Malini and Shilpa Shetty among others have encouraged fans to make Yoga a part of their daily routine, on the occasion of International Yoga Day.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today led the first International Yoga Day celebrations in the country, defining yoga as a means to train the human mind to begin a new era of peace and harmony.

While the PM practised ‘asanas’ along with nearly 35,000 participants during a mega event at Rajpath in Delhi, Bollywood stars rooted for Yoga via their Twitter pages.

“Yog… Yoga… Yoga…!! shirsa Aasan!!” read Bachchan’s tweet.

Shilpa, a fitness enthusiast, participated in the celebrations in Benguluru.

“Enjoyed a great Yoga session under the sky with 10000 people joining me in doing the asanas. What a historic day. Happy international yoga day,” she tweeted.

Malini said, “International Yoga Day today! I hope everyone is doing at least some asanas as our PM has requested! Spread the culture- we need it badly!”

“It’s a historic first! Happy #YogaDay to everyone. Practicing #Yoga has intense benefits for the body, mind and the soul,” said actress-MP Kirron Kher.

Her actor-husband Anupam Kher wrote, “Only a person like my Grandfather (Yoga Guru) could give me the ultimate advice, ‘Bheegha hua aadmi baarish se nahi darta’ (A man, who is already drenched, does not fear rain), #HappyYogaDay.”

Actress Juhi Chawla, who participated in a group yoga session at a local club this morning, posted, “Let us celebrate #Yogaday by doing “Namaskar” – the simplest form of #YogaForAll.”

“Seen yoga being practised all over the world. It’s time we practice what is ours, by us. #YogaDay I’m up and about early on #YogaDay Well that’s a start!” wrote actor Boman Irani.

Actor Sidharth Malhotra said, “#InternatioanalDayofYoga Yoga should be a integral part of our daily life, to reach our true potential.”
