In an unfortunate news, Bollywood actress Sridevi passed away on Saturday morning. Highly regarded first female superstar breathed her last on Saturday in Dubai. Veteran actress Sridevi died due to massive cardiac arrest. She was 54. Sridevi was attending nephew and actor Mohit Marwah’s wedding in Dubai with her husband Boney Kapoor and younger daughter Khushi. According to reports, the actress’s brother-in-law Sanjay Kapoor confirmed the death of the legendary Bollywood actress. Her sudden demise has shaken the pillars of the film industry with several popular actors paying tribute to the enigmatic actress across all social media platforms. Sanjay Kapoor confirming the news to The Indian Express said that he received the news after landing in Mumbai and that he was again flying back to Dubai. The actress succumbed to her death around 11-11:30 pm on Saturday, informed Sanjay Kapoor.
Sridevi, born as Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan made her Bollywood debut as a child artist at the age of 12 in Julie released in 1975. The actress’s contribution to the world of films spans over 40 years. She has acted in several languages chiefly Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada and Hindi films. Sridevi’s foray into the sphere of adult roles came with the Tamil film Moondru Mudichu (1976) at the age of 13. Sridevi besides making big in Bollywood established herself as one of the leading actresses of Tamil and Telugu cinema with films such as 16 Vayathinile (1977), Sigappu Rojakkal(1978), Varumayin Niram Sivappu (1980), Meendum Kokila (1981), Premabhishekam (1981), Moondram Pirai (1982) and others.

Sridevi was honoured with the fourth highest civilian award, Padma Shri, in 2013 by the Government of India for her immense contribution to cinema. The actress gained popularity and nation-wide acclaim for her roles in Himmatwala, Mr India, Tohfa, Nagina, Chaalbaaz, and others. India’s first female superstar in her lifetime has won five Filmfare awards and has been nominated for the same 10 times. After Judaai, Sridevi took a 15-year hiatus and returned to films with English Vinglish in 2012. She is survived by husband Boney Kapoor and two daughters – Jhanvi and Khushi.
