Despite protests and no screenings in many states, Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed and Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor starrer Padmaavat is creating big records at box office. Padmaavat box office collection has already entered Rs 100 crore club. The film has garnered Rs 114 crore in India alone. But, what is even more interesting is that Padmaavat is establishing some big records at the overseas box offices too. In terms of overseas box office collection, Padmaavat has broken records of many Bollywood biggies – Aamir Khan’s PK and Dangal, Salman Khan’s Sultan, Tiger Zinda Hai and Bajrangi Bhaijaan to name a few. Famous movie critic and Bollywood biz analyst Taran Adarsh has tweeted, “This may sound UNBELIEVABLE, but #Padmaavat has crossed *lifetime biz* of #Dilwale, #BajiraoMastani, #Sultan, #TigerZindaHai [still running] and #BajrangiBhaijaan in its *opening weekend* itself in Australia… Will cross #Dhoom3 today [Mon]… INCREDIBLE indeed!… @Rentrak.”

Moreover, Padmaavat has become the HIGHEST SINGLE DAY GROSSER IN NORTH AMERICA!

Padmaavat in Rs 100 crore club now!

“Looking at the overall scenario, #Padmaavat has put up FANTASTIC numbers in its extended weekend… Crosses ₹ 100 cr mark… Wed [limited previews] 5 cr, Thu 19 cr, Fri 32 cr, Sat 27 cr, Sun 31 cr. Total: ₹ 114 cr. India biz,” Taran Adarsh tweeted. “Protests… Disturbances… No screening in few states… Yet, #Padmaavat does EXCELLENT biz in its extended weekend… The film lost out on substantial biz [approx ₹ 35 cr / ₹ 37 cr], but the SUPERB trending in other circuits helped put up a MAJESTIC total…,” Taran Adarsh added in another tweet.

The film, starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, is based on the 16th century epic, “Padmaavat” by poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi. The film faced controversy after various Rajput groups accused Bhansali of “distorting historical facts” with the portrayal of queen Padmavati, a claim repeatedly denied by him.

The film was released on January 25 after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) cleared it last month with a ‘U/A’ certificate and five modifications, including title change from “Padmavati” to “Padmaavat”.
