Fitoor box office collections: The Katrina Kaif and Aditya Roy Kapoor starrer, according to initial reports, managed to collect Rs 3.61 crore on day 1 – far from breaking the Rs 10 crore barrier, Katrina Kaif and Aditya Roy Kapoor were not able to boost Fitoor even past the half-way mark of that. Indications are that the film is not going to break the Rs 10 crore barrier at the end of the day as far as earnings are concerned.
While this is the result of Fitoor releasing on a working Friday, the film was also robbed of much of its powers of attraction as it received diametrically opposite reactions in reviews – from standout to poor.
Also, the film was not surrounded by any controversy that would have put it at the front and centre of national attention, but this factor does not always work and can have negative repercussions too – for instance, Sunny Leone’s Mastizaade was not helped by the publicity immediately ahead of the release of the film and Shahrukh Khan’s Dilwale was greeted by many protests, which limited its intake at the B.O. The fact that Fitoor has a restricted run in under 1,500 screens is also a big limiting factor.
Things may clear up for Fitoor during the weekend when, and if, it manages to power-up the word-of-mouth booster shot for itself and bring people to theatres. The fate of the film will depend on how things pan out over the next 48 hours.
Fitoor budget was around Rs 70 crore and recovering that will be the first priority, but as things stand, the film is having to battle a host of negatives at the outset itself.
