In a surprise cameo in ‘The Interview’, Eminem declares that he is gay while being interviewed by James Franco’s TV host character.
Playing himself, the rapper casually mentions he’s gay while explaining the content of his songs. But the claim causes Skylark (Franco) and his producer (Seth Rogen) to freak out. The chat then starts revolving entirely around his coming out much to Eminem’s publicist’s chagrin.
“When I say things about gay people, or people think my lyrics are homophobic – it’s because I’m gay,” Eminem says in the movie.
“People probably are shocked by what you’re saying,” Franco said.
“I’m more shocked with people haven’t figured it out now. I mean, it’s kind of like I’ve been playing gay peek-a-boo,” the rapper further says in the movie.
Eminem has often been accused of being a homophobic for using anti-gay slurs in his lyrics, a claim that the rapper has disputed.
‘The Interview’ finally released on Christmas in selected theaters and online after being postponed following threats of violence by a group of hackers, who carried out a massive cyber attack on Sony Entertainment to protest the film’s plot of a fictional assassination of North Korean leader.
