Dear Zindagi box office collection day 4: With Alia Bhatt taking up the film’s lead role and Shahrukh Khan lending it able support in his ‘extended cameo’, Dear Zindagi managed to earn a decent Rs 32.5 crore at the box office on its opening weekend on the back of an over Rs 12 cr earnings on Sunday (day 3). The movie’s Monday revenue however saw a massive drop with just Rs 4.2 crore being logged. This may not be a great way to start a working week, but the film has managed to get off to a stable start for its first week’s earnings. Overall, the slice-of-life film has raked in Rs 36.75 crore in India and its worldwide earnings are a humongous Rs 78 crore so far – that should make the filmmakers laugh all the way to the bank!
This massive success flows from the fact that Shahrukh Khan’s superstar status has pulled in a huge fan base that spans over four decades and that accounts for a large part of the film’s earnings. SRKians will turn up, always, if only to see King Khan in a role that showcases his range of acting skills. The film’s word-of-mouth reputation can do as much to harm it as help it with audience reviews ranging anywhere from boring to brilliant. Given the current situation of demonetization, the film has managed to do reasonably well. Part of the credit for this goes to the Dear Zindagi team for recognizing the movie’s niche appeal and choosing to release it across only 1100 across the country, only in multiplexes.
The movie was made on a budget of roughly Rs 22 crore with an additional Rs 7-8 crore for marketing, according to Bollywood Hungama. Clearly, Shahrukh Khan does not have to worry about the spend now that the money is flowing flood-like.
