Dangal collection worldwide: Even months after its release, Aamir Khan’s Dangal is going strongly at the box office and in yet another achievement, has now become the fifth highest-grossing non-English film worldwide in history, reported ANI. The Nitesh Tiwari-directorial officially surpassed the $300 million mark this week and became the fifth non-English movie in history to do so. Dangal’s overseas business will give a major boost for Indian cinema. The film has so far earned $301 million, with $179.8 million coming from China and $84.4 million from India. Released on December 23, 2016 in India, the movie is based on the life of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and is now the first and only Indian film with an overseas gross exceeding $100 million.
Apart from this, the film is now also the 30th biggest hit of 2016 worldwide surpassing Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska’s Alice Through The Looking Glass, reported Indian Express. The news was confirmed by trade analyst Rames Bala on Twitter. “#Dangal with $301 M replaces #AliceThroughTheLookingGlass ‘s $299.5 M to become 2016 ‘s No. 30th movie and enters Top 30 2016 WW BO Club!” Bala wrote on Tuesday.

“Dangal becomes the 1st Indian movie to do US$300 M at the WW BO.. #China – $179.41 M, #Taiwan – $6 M, RoW – $115.62 M, Total – $301.03 M,” Bala said in another tweet. Apart from Dangal, only four other non-English movies in history have earned more than $300 million worldwide: China’s ‘The Mermaid’ ($533 million) and ‘Monster Hunt’ ($386 million), France’s ‘The Intouchables’ ($427 million) and Japan’s ‘Your Name’ ($354 million), as per ANI.
Recently even Chinese President Xi Jinping said that he has watched Dangal and also liked it. During the SCO summit, Xi Jinping had told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he watched Aamir Khan-starrer sports drama Bollywood film Dangal and liked it. Xi said Dangal is doing well in China and he himself watched it, Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar said after the talks between the two leaders on the sidelines of the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
