Dangal box office collections: Ever since the release of Aamir Khan starrer Dangal on December 14, 2016, it has created a huge number of records and what is more it is still creating new benchmarks for other movies to follow. This Indian blockbuster that is on the verge of entering the Rs 2000 cr club is now the 30th biggest hit of 2016 worldwide after surpassing Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska’s Alice Through The Looking Glass, as reported in an Indian Express report. Its release in China has given a big boost to the earnings of the film – it has earned over $300 million or Rs 1930 crore. According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala’s tweet, “#Dangal with $301 M replaces #AliceThroughTheLookingGlass ‘s $299.5 M to become 2016 ‘s No. 30th movie and enters Top 30 2016 WW BO Club!” Having said all that, while the overall collection of the movie is a lot, yet all of that whopping amount won’t be going into the pockets of the makers.

According to another tweet by Ramesh Bala, “Dangal becomes the 1st Indian movie to do US$300 M at the WW BO.. #China – $179.41 M, #Taiwan – $6 M, RoW – $115.62 M, Total – $301.03 M.”

Aamir Khan is just one of the producers of the film apart from Walt Disney Pictures and UTV Motion Pictures and they will all reap the windfall, albeit they will have to share it. According to the rules that govern the Chinese box office, the government gives only 25 per cent of the total box-office earning to a foreign studio. While this is a lot less than what other countries offer, US gives 50 per cent of the total box-office earnings and other countries give 40 per cent of the box-office revenue earned by a foreign studio.
