Despite the controversy surrounding, the film has braved all the battles has come out to be victorious. Besides, the huge success of the period drama, the film has been a personal success for the actors individually. For Deepika Padukone, Padmaavat has crossed the Box Office collections of Happy New Year, starring Shah Rukh Khan next to her. In its opening weekend, Deepika’s previous release Happy New Year that had collected Rs. 108.86 crore. Besides, Padmaavat has also done better than other movies of Deepika Padukone, including Chennai Express, which collected an amount of Rs 100.42 crore, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, which minted an amount of Rs 62.11 and others. For Ranveer Singh also, the movie has been a huge personal success. This movie is the biggest opening weekend grosser ever and the fastest film of his to achieve Rs 100 crore. Padmaavat has also surpassed his previous movies like Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani, Gunday, and others.
While Padmaavat has managed to perform brisk at the Box office, the movie was mired in several controversies. The protestors had claimed that the movie had distorted historical facts. On its opening day, theatre in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat refused to screen the movie. Even in Goa, the movie was played in select multiplexes. Besides, in the other parts of the country, a tight security deployed outside the multiplexes. Speaking to PTI, an official said, “Some policemen were also deployed inside the cinema halls to thwart any attempt to disrupt the screening.” The violence over the release of the movie was so rampant that the police had to deploy security for the safety of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Deepika Padukone.
Last month, Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had cleared the movie with a ‘U/A’ certificate and had put five modification on the table, following which the movie will be released. The major improvement was to tweak the name of the movie from Padmavati to Padmaavat.
