Befikre box office collections prediction: With positive reviews and Ranveer Singh as the leading man, it’s no surprise that Befikre is set to dominate the box office on its release today. The film, which sees Vaani Kapoor take a much bolder role since her time in Shuddh Desi Romance, saw a really good occupancy rate of around 55% in the morning. This will naturally only increase during the evening shows, pegging the film’s first day earnings around Rs 10 crore.
The film appeals to the modern mindset of the young and the bold in society. It sees Dharam (Ranveer) and Shyra (Vaani) experiment with a casual relationship, a live-in, staying ‘just friends’, separating and eventually falling back in love. Rather than focusing on the complications of relationships, Befikre keeps it refreshingly comical for the most part. The film, which is a light and entertaining ride, has generally garnered positive reviews, particularly for Ranveer’s performance (although he does fumble a bit in his role of a stand-up comedian in the film).
While some parts of the film feel forced, the leading pair’s chemistry is enough to gloss over the more stretched parts of the plot, delivering a feel-good watch. A masterstroke comes in setting the movie in Paris, which not only provides the film with some gorgeous cinematography, but also supports its ‘anything goes’ theme – especially when it comes to love and sex. One can’t help imagine that audiences wouldn’t have been as comfortable with Vaani’s character stripping in a library in India.
Befikre’s success on its first day can be credited to its solid post-production marketing, according to Bollywood Hungama. The film’s posters, all of which feature Ranveer and Vaani locking lips, grabbed eyeballs and made headlines once again when the censor board surprisingly let it all slide. To add to the shock value, we had the much-promoted scene of Ranveer showing off his bod in nothing but red underwear and sure enough, it set tongues wagging. A catchy soundtrack that boasts of hits like Ude Dil Befikre and Nashe Si Chadh Gayi helped amp up the buzz around the romcom, sealing its fate as a box office hit.
