Befikre box office collections opening weekend: Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor may have taken a gamble working in this quirky friends-with-benefits themed film, but it has paid off very decently. Befikre has scored Rs 34.5 crore in its opening weekend. With over 55% occupancy rate on Friday, the film closed its day 1 earnings at Rs 10.36 crore. It kept a steady pace over the weekend, bagging Rs 11.60 crore on Saturday and Rs 12.36 crore on Sunday. While it may not have performed as well as other films of the YRF banner, this partially stems from the fact that Befikre caters to a somewhat niche audience. The film’s theme appeals solely to the youth, excluding families from its audience.

Befikre has met with mixed reviews. While most have praised the Ranveer and Vaani’s performances, the somewhat predictable storyline doesn’t give them enough material to bring to life two very interesting characters. Regardless of its unusual premise, the movie doesn’t quite live up to its promise of being ‘befikre’ and winds up taking the ‘happily ever after’ route of any Aditya Chopra film. Among its many talking points is where Ranveer has stripped completely for a scene – a first for mainstream Indian cinema – which takes places when his character Dharam is breaking up with his live-in girlfriend. Despite its catchy numbers and Paris providing a lovely backdrop, the film has mostly been pegged as an entertaining one-time watch.

Earning Rs 10.36 on its opening day, Befikre has gone on to become Ranveer’s fifth highest grossing open day earnings of all time, with Gunday topping the list at Rs. 16.12 crore. According to Bollywood Hungama, Befikre was made on a budget of Rs 70 crore, inclusive of production and marketing. Given the film’s current performance, it remains to be seen whether it will break even by its first week.
