Despite facing stringent competition from films like A Gentleman and Hollywood’s Annabelle: Creation, the Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer Babumoshai Bandookbaaz has been able to do a whopping business on day 1 of its release. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh the movie has managed to mint Rs 2.05 cr on Friday. Earlier it was predicted by Bollywoodhungama that the movie would bag somewhere around Rs 1.5 to 2 crore on day 1 at the box office. Though the movie has been able to acquire less number of screens compared to other movies, industry experts believe that it will still do a business of around Rs 8 crore by end of this weekend.
While Nawazuddin’s acting has been praised by many, the movie on a whole has not been able to impress the critics. “Nawaz is fully immersed in his role; as is Goswami. The banter between Babu and Banke makes you smile. And then you are back to the film playing out the beats of the genre. Shoot-outs in the fields, killings with long-range rifles, sexually pumped men and women, local netas wrestling for power, local cops on the take, and curvaceous women on the make. It’s all there, but we’ve seen it all, or variations of it, before,” Shubhra Gupta from Indian Express stated in her recent review.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s fanbase is rapidly increased day-by-day and this could be one main reason why the movie would fly in theaters. Babumoshai Bandookbaaz is also said to be in close competition with musical drama film Qaidi Band, produced by Aditya Chopra. Nevertheless, Nawazuddin’s flick is expected to do comparatively better.
Based on the concept of love and lust in the hinterlands of Uttar Pradesh, Babumoshai Bandookbaaz also stars Bidita Bag and Jatin Goswami in lead roles. This is Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s fifth film of 2017 after Munna Michael, MOM, Raees and Haramkhor.
