When two much-anticipated movies make their way to a same day release, behind them follows a trail of strategies.
Box office clashes in Bollywood are not unheard of – they happen on a regular basis, but usually are of the David vs Goliath variety except, in these clashes the little guy is left worse for the wear. When two much-anticipated movies make their way to a same day release, behind them follows a trail of strategies. Baadshaho and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan which released on September 1 had a lot of buzz surrounding these movies. On one hand, where Baadhshaho was a so-called period film (during the Emergency period) majorly based on a robber-cop chase theme, Shubh Mangal Savdhan dealt with a more sensitive issue of a bodily challenged person – considering it is a Bollywood movie, it had to be about, what else, but erectile dysfunction. Where Baadshaho boasted of a star studded cast, Shubh Mangal Savdhan starred newbies Bhumi Pednekar and Ayushmaan Khurrana.
The box office collection day five has arrived, where Baadshaho has collected Rs 6.12 cr, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan minted 2.85 cr. The total box office collection of Baadshaho and Shubh Mangal Savdhan at Rs 56.24 cr and Rs 19.84 cr respectively. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeting about Baadhshaho’s box office collection said, ” Baadshaho is STEADY in mass circuits… Fri 12.60 cr, Sat 15.60 cr, Sun 15.10 cr, Mon 6.82 cr, Tue 6.12 cr. Total: ₹ 56.24 cr. India biz.” Shubh Mangal Saavdhan saw a leap in its day 5 collection tweeting about which Taran Adarsh wrote, ” ShubhMangalSaavdhan biz JUMPS on Tue… Fri 2.71 cr, Sat 5.56 cr, Sun 6.19 cr, Mon 2.53 cr, Tue 2.85 cr. Total: ₹ 19.84 cr. India biz.
Baadshaho is a film based on the 1970’s India when the country was torn by the Emergency. But the movie does no justice to the period and none of the aspects portrays the harrowing situation of that time. The director uses the theme as a window dressing and on delving into the movie we know it’s a robber-cop action drama which is in store. The film stars Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi, Esha Gupta, Vidyut Jamwal.
Shubh Mangal Savdhan is based on what is regarded as a taboo in our society, erectile dysfunction. In the movie, Bhumi Pednekar plays Sugandha, who is a simple girl with middle-class values, while Ayushmann Khurrana plays Mudit, a marketing professional. They are set to have an arranged marriage but soon their families come to know about Mudit’s dark secret.
