Shamitabh, Shamitabh review, Amitabh Bachchan

In ‘Shamitabh’, Amitabh Bachchan plays a washed-up alcoholic who has muffed up his chances in life and is now beyond caring. The box office collections of the movie, also starring Dhanush, have started on a very dull note. (Bollywood Hungama)

Amitabh Bachchan and Dhanush starrer ‘Shamitabh’ box office collections have started on a very dull note with only Rs 3.5 crore from Day 1. The film, which got mixed reviews, opened at a very low occupancy rate in the morning and afternoon shows but had better showing in the evening and late night shows on star powers.

‘Shamitabh’ witnessed somewhat better response in metros but overall opening day occupancy had been poor in other sectors. Reports suggest that the film has opened to a dismal start with just 15 per cent occupancy rate. Adding to this, the mixed reviews the film has received has made the task of posting decent collections a challenging affair, says Bollywood Hungama.

According to Koimoi, ‘Shamitabh’ witnessed a decent opening in South India. Mysore, Mumbai and NCR circuit saw an occupancy of around 20-30 per cent. However, the rest of the parts were dull.

But ‘Shamitabh’ is expected to pick up over evening and night shows as it faces almost no competition from the previous releases.  However, the film that caters to a rather niche pseudo-intellectual audience will have to rely heavily on good word of mouth.
