Amitabh Bachchan and Dhanush starrer ‘Shamitabh’ was the biggest movie this weekend in the India box office. The movie’s opening weekend box office collections did reasonably well with Rs 13.25 crore from the first three days.
‘Shamitabh’ now stands as the third in the list of 2015’s top opening weekend earners, behind Akshay Kumar’s ‘Baby’ (Rs 36.07 crore) and Arjun Singh-Sonakshi Sinha’s ‘Tevar’ (Rs 22.05 crore). Overall, the movie is now at No 5 position after ‘Baby’ (Rs 89.14 crore), ‘Tevar’ (Rs 39.26 crore), ‘Alone’ (Rs 19.33 crore) and Dolly Ki Doli (Rs 19.26 crore).
In fact, ‘Shamitabh’ has done better than Big B’s last film ‘Bhoothnath Returns’, which made Rs 18.02 crore in the first weekend with a lifetime collections of Rs 39.54 crore. The megastar is yet to have a Rs 100 crore on his kitty, except ‘Bol Bachchan’ where he did an item number.
‘Shamitabh’, which had a reasonably good showing in the multiplexes, has managed to generate Rs 4.75 crore from Saturday and Rs 5 crore from Sunday. With Rs 3.5 from the opening day, the movies net box office collections now stand at Rs 13.5 crore.
The Amitabh Bachchan starrer on very dull note on Friday. The film, which got mixed reviews, opened at a very low occupancy rate in the morning and afternoon shows but had better showing in the evening and late night shows on star powers.
According to Koimoi, the other two releases, ‘Hum Tum Dushman Dushman’ and ‘Jai Jawaan Jai Kisaan’, just came and went with not even critics caring to carry a review. In fact, only competition to ‘Shamitabh’ came from Akshay Kumar’s ‘Baby’, which is having a good run at the box office and is the biggest movie of the year so far.
