Director Dheeraj Pandey’s upcoming movie Aiyaary trailer was released on Tuesday. One of the first releases of 2018, Sidharth Malhotra, Manoj Bajpayee starrer is scheduled to release on Republic Day. It is a star-studded film and will cast Naseeruddin Shah, Pooja Chopra, Anupam Kher and Rahul Preet Singh. The trailer is three minutes long and gives a glimpse into the relationship of mentor Manoj Bajpayee and his protege Sidharth Malhotra. The intensity of both the characters in the trailer sets the tone of the film and to add up the elements of the thriller are versatile legendary actors Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher. From the look of the trailer, it seems the film is the battle between two army officers ideologies and teh best way to get things done. The trailer also hints at a scam that will harm Indian Army’s reputation.
Manoj is playing the character of Colonel Abhay Singh who is on the lookout for Sidharth aka Major Jai Bakshi, a surveillance officer. Manoj tries to gauge the meaning of the words “Aiyaar” and “Aiyaary” and for him ‘aiyaar’ is someone who remains in disguise to fool others. Neeraj Pandey while talking to Mumbai Mirror explained the title and said “Aiyaary has been a special project with a very exciting ensemble. ‘Aiyaary’ means the ultimate trickery. The word ‘Aiyaary’ fabulously sums up what a Soldier resorts to in the face of extreme crisis. His intelligence, sharpness and wit not only dazzles his own troops but also earns him the respect of his enemies.”
However, the trailer gives a feeling of deja vu as audience might end up recalling the 2008 release of ‘A Wednesday’ and Shah’s last dialogue where he says one should not poke a poor man. Interestingly, ‘A Wednesday’ was also directed by Pandey.
The makers had earlier released a sneak peek into the world of Aiyaary that was shot in Delhi as well as in some picturesque locations abroad. This short trailer also suggests that the film will be high on action sequences. However, Aiyaary is going to face competition from Akshay Kumar’s PadMan. Neeraj Pandey also made movies like Baby and Special 26.
