Aiyaary box office collection: Action drama film Aiyaary hit theatres on February 16, Friday. Manoj Bajpayee, Siddharth Malhotra starrer is an expensive film but it has not been able to garner much attention despite falling into the ‘action genre’. That has created quite a concern in Bollywood industry. The film is a Neeraj Pandey production and it earned just Rs 13 crore over the weekend. After all the hype that the movie had garnered due to its relation to defence personnel lives, it could not manage to earn big. The reason behind this slow start by Aiyaary may well be because it was not promoted too much by the filmmakers and it relied heavily on the word of mouth from the viewing public to generate the BO numbers. While it may not have done as badly as some of the other releases this year, yet Aiyaary has added to the 2018 list of films that have not done well.
The first inkling of Aiyaari not doing well came when it failed to impress the critics. The reviews were not flattering. It is nowhere near Akshay Kumar starrer PadMan and Deepika Padukone starrer Padmavat leave alone Salman Khan starrer Tiger Zinda Hai. While the former earned Rs 40 crore on its opening weekend, the latter bagged a whopping Rs 114 crore and TZH earned Rs 114.93 crore.
Aiyaari’s main storyline is about two armymen- Siddharth Malhotra and Manoj Bajpayee- who share a mentor-pupil relationship. The movie stars critically acclaimed actors Naseeruddin Shah, Anupam Kher, Kumud Mishra, Adil Hussain and Vikram Gokhale in important roles.
On its opening day, the Neeraj Pandey starrer earned Rs 3.36 crore which is the lowest opening grosser of 2018. Meanwhile, in New Zealand, it was released on 13 screens and earned NZD 47, 065. Also, in Australia, it was released on 32 screens and earned 82,191 Australian dollars.
Curiously, Aiyaary’s overseas earning is 40 percent more than ‘Naam Shabana’ starring Akshay Kumar and Tapsee Pannu. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh said,”#Aiyaary – OVERSEAS… Fri $ 419,000 Sat $ 292,000 Total: $ 711,000 [₹ 4.57 cr]… 2-day biz is 40% higher than #NaamShabana in international markets. ”
However, the Marvel movie Black Panther which was also released on the same day as Aiyaary has been doing good in the Indian market. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter and said,”#BlackPanther witnessed decent growth on Day 2… Thu previews + Fri 5.60 cr, Sat 6.65 cr. Total: ₹ 12.25 cr Nett BOC… Gross BOC: ₹ 15.71 cr. India biz… Note: Hindi + English.”
