‘Dangal’ Box Office collections in China have thrilled the makers as it registered earnings of over Rs 80 crore in its opening weekend there, IANS reported. A spokesperson from Aamir Khan Productions’ told IANS: “The entire team of ‘Dangal’ is thrilled with the love and affection the film has got from audiences across China. The weekend box office number of Rs 81 crore surpasses the previous Indian film record in China which was held by ‘PK’. The team is also overwhelmed with the outpouring of emotion on the public platforms and in the media for the film. We would like to thank our partners in China for their efforts in making ‘Dangal’ accessible to cinema lovers across China.”
This movie may be the first Bollywood movie to become the highest-earning film in China. Aamir Khan’s PK has been the only Indian movie to have crossed Rs 100 crore in China in 16 days since its release. Dangal’s lifetime Box Office Collection in India was at Rs 387.38 crore, according to Bollywood Hungama.
Another Indian film on a successful box office ride in foreign lands is Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which also showed the same trajectory but with much bigger numbers in North America. SS Rajamouli’s film created history and became the first Indian film to collect Rs 100 crore in North America. Movie critic and analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted: “The unthinkable has happened. Baahubali 2 is the first Indian film to cross Rs 100 crore in North America on Saturday. All records shattered”.
The box office collections of Baahubali 2 in India are soaring at Rs 80 crore in the second weekend. From Rs 128 crore in the first it was a mere 36.91% decline in Weekend 2, Adarsh had tweeted. “Outstanding! On Friday it was Rs 19.75 crore, on Saturday, Rs 26.50 crore, Sunday 34.50 crore. Therefore, Total: Rs 327.75 crore,” read Adarsh’s tweet.
