Uttarakhand Elections 2017: Every elections in India throw up quite a few interesting battles. Forthcoming Uttarakhand Elections on February 15 has one such. It will be an electoral face-off between two Bengali ‘wives’ of a former Congressman in Sitarganj constituency of the state, according to HT report. To tap the sizable Bengali population in the constituency, Malti Biswas and Binda Biswas are pitted against each other. There are approximately 30 per cent Bengali population in Sitarganj, says the report.

Former Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna’s son Saurabh Bahuguna is also in the fray from the same constituency. While Malti is contesting on Congress ticket, Binda is an independent candidate. Both of them have claimed that they are real wives of former Pradesh Congress Committee member Shyam Biswas. Shyam, however, claims that Malti is his ‘legitimate’ wife and Binda is spreading rumours, according to the report.

With heavyweight turncoats on its side against an emaciated Congress lineup, BJP may appear to have an advantage in Uttarakhand which goes to polls on February 15 but absence of a chief ministerial candidate may prove to be a stumbling block.

While Congress is going to the polls with a definite face in Harish Rawat, BJP has left people guessing about who would get the top office if the latter is voted to power, the presence of too many strong turncoats on its side only adding to the confusion.

Non projection of a CM candidate despite going to the polls with an anti-corruption plank has confused voters who cannot decide who they should vote for if not for Harish Rawat.

Political observers here feel projecting someone with a clean image as the BJP’s CM candidate and an alternative to Rawat would have done the party a world of good as it would have been easier for people to make a choice.
