So, the suspense is finally over and Yogi Adityanath has been sworn-in as the new Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday afternoon. The oath-taking ceremony was administrated by governor Ram Naik at a function in Lucknow’s Kanshiram memorial ground. BJP UP Chief Keshav Prasad Maurya who was one of the front runners for the post also took oath as the new Deputy Chief Minister along with party’s National Vice-President Dinesh Sharma. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Party President Amit Shah. Yogi Adityanath who is a five-time Lok Sabha MP from Gorakhpur, was elected BJP Legislature Party leader at a meeting of MLAs in Lucknow on Saturday. After the meeting, he met Ram Naik and staked claim to form the government in the state.

4.45 pm: However, much to everyone’s surprize, the list included one Muslim face – Mohsin Raza, a retired cricketer who recently joined BJP. 40-year-old Raza, who recently joined the BJP, was appointed party’s spokesperson in the state.

4.08 PM: Akhilesh Yadav and Mulayam Singh Yadav also waved hands from stage as a gesture to show coordination between opposition and government.

3:46 PM: A rare moment on stage as PM Narendra Modi shared a warm moment with former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav and his father Mulayam Singh Yadav. Not often you see senior Indian leaders in India, keeping their personal issues aside. It was a picture-perfect moment as Modi took extra steps and himself went to shake hands with Akhilesh Yadav.

3:35 PM: Former Ranji cricketer Mohsin Raza has been sworn-in as the Minister of State. He has played 2 Ranji matches for Uttar Pradesh and will be the minority face in Yogi Adityanath’s team.


3:30 PM: Celebrations have begun started outside the Gorakhnath temple after Yogi Adityanath was sworn in as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister.


3:28 PM: Till now, 9 state ministers (independent charge) have been sworn-in by Governor Ram Naik. Aditya Yoginath’s cabinet will have 22 ministers and they have been sworn in by the UP Governor.

3:15 PM: Swati Singh has been sworn-in as a minister. She has been rewarded for her heroics in Sarojini Nagar. Swati Singh is the wife of expelled BJP leader Dayashankar Singh who was the state vice president of BJP.

3:10 PM: Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary and Upendra Tiwari have taken oath as minister of state (independent charge). Swatantra Dev Singh has also been sworn-in. He emerged as a dark-horse for the CM post.

3:02 PM: Mukut Bihari Verma and Ashutosh Tandon was sworn in as Cabinet Ministers in the Uttar Pradesh Government. Rajendra Pratap Singh also took oath as the cabinet minister. Now the ministers with Independent charges will take the oath.

2:55 PM: Siddharth Nath Singh who is the grandson of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri has also taken the oath. Shrikant Sharma was previously a member of ABVP and won this year’s election from Mathura.

2:53 PM: Om Prakash Rajbhar and Brajesh Pathak take oath as cabinet ministers of Uttar Pradesh government.

2:51 PM: Chetan Chauhan and Shrikant Sharma have taken the oath as ministers. Chetan Chauhan is a former cricketer and became the first player to retire with over 2000 Test runs without scoring a single century.

2:47 PM: Brijesh Pathak has taken oath as the minister. He is another minister who was brought in BJP from BSP. He joins the list of outsiders who are now a part of the cabinet. Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary is the next minister to take oath.

2:43 PM: Ramapati Shastri and Jai Prakash Singh have taken oath as ministers.

2:39 PM: SP Singh Baghel has taken the oath as Minister. Surya Pratap Shahi and Satyadev Pachauri have also been sworn-in.


2:36 PM: Rita Bahuguna Joshi has taken the oath. She was a part of Congress for almost 24 years but made a switch to BJP last year. Another senior leader, Dharam Pal Singh has also taken the oath.

2:31 PM: Satish Mahana and Rakesh Aggarwal have taken the oath.

2:27 PM: First to take the oath are two senior members of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Surya Pratap Shahi and Suresh Khanna have taken oath as new Chief Minister.

2:23 PM: Dinesh Sharma has also taken oath as the new deputy Chief Minister. Now, the cabinet of ministers will take the oath.

2:19 PM: Keshav Prasad Maurya is taking oath as the deputy Chief Minister. He is the UP BJP Chief and played an important role in party’s campaign.

2:03 PM: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was welcomed at the airport by Yogi Adityanath himself. He was accompanied by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Meanwhile, Mulayam Singh Yadav has also reached the venue and is on stage.

1:58 PM: Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu has reached the venue and so has Uma Bharti. She made a grand entry to the event. PM Modi has also landed in Lucknow. He will be reaching the venue soon.

1:50 PM:  A lot of activities are going on at the venue. Former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has reached the venue and had a small conversation with Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on stage. It was good to see that both the leaders were smiling.

1:15 PM: BJP President Amit Shah has arrived in Lucknow to attend the oath-taking ceremony along with Chandra Babu Nadu. Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav will also attend the swearing-in ceremony.

12:55 PM: Swati Singh and former cricketer Chetan Chauhan will also be a part of Yogi Adityanath’s cabinet. Swati Singh is another major name in the list.

12:42 PM: First details of Yogi Adityanath’s cabinet of ministers are out. Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Shrikant Sharma and Siddharth Nath Singh are the important names on the list.

11:55 AM: Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu revealed that Yogi Adityanath himself asked for two deputy Chief Ministers. “He openly requested me for two Deputy CMs who would help him as Uttar Pradesh is a big state. The trio will be a good combination,” he said before the oath-taking ceremony.

11:35 AM: BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi says, it’ll be a new era of development with PM’s vision and Yogi’s action, a new dawn is set in the offing for UP. Meanwhile, celebrations are going on in Gorakhpur.


11:15 AM: BJP leaders have started arriving for the swearing-in ceremony. So far, Swantantra Dev Singh, Arun Kumar Singh and Bhupendra Yadav have come. PM Modi and Amit Shah are expected to arrive shortly.
