After months of high-decibel campaigns and roadshows, the election season has finally arrived in politically crucial Uttar Pradesh. Recently, polling for second out of seven-phased Assembly elections took place amid high security arrangements in 11 districts including Saharanpur, Bijnor, Moradabad, Sambhal, Rampur, Bareilly, Amroha, Pilibhit, Kheri, Shahjahanpur and Badaun. Fate of 721 candidates from over 92 political parties are in the fray. In this high-octane triangular battle, Bharatiya Janata Party, Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party, all are eying at the throne. As the elections have now reached a crucial stage, stakes are highest for the ruling SP, as the party did tremendously well during the 2012 Assembly polls. The incumbent CM Akhilesh along with his political partner Rahul Gandhi has been consistently blaming PM Modi for hindering the development work in the state. On the other hand, PM Modi has been critical about Akhilesh and called the state government as anti-farmer. PM has also accused that Centre allot funds, but why is it that farmers in the state are not benefited.

Many experts believe that a large chunk of Muslim votes between SP-Congress alliance and Mayawati-led BSP could benefit BJP in the ongoing elections in the country’s most populous state. With such high voter turnout, it clearly indicates that the electorate is turning out to vote to effect a major change. However, looking at the crowd in rallies of these parties, it is very difficult to say as to who would be at the receiving end of the voters.

Atraulia is constituency No. 343 of Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly. It is situated in Azamgarh district and comes under Atraulia Lok Sabha constituency. It is an open constituency.

Who are the competing candidates
Dr Sangram Yadav (SP), Akhand Pratap Singh(BSP), Triloki Nath (RLD), Kanhaiya Lal Nishad(BJP) and Laxmi Prasad (IND).

Why this constituency is important?
BSP has a strong foothold in this region and Akhand Pratap Singh candidature can create a lot of trouble for other parties. However, the sitting MLA belongs to SP, but the current wave does not indicate a good grip of the ruling party. BJP’s last minute announcement has also made the fight more interesting and now its very tough to say as to which party will sweep the shot.
