On Saturday evening BJP finally ended the suspense over its CM face in Uttar Pradesh as Yogi Adityanath was elected as BJP Legislature Party leader at a meeting of MLAs in Lucknow. The first name that has emerged is of Rita Bhauguna Joshi who has been made a part of Yogi Adityanath’s council of Ministers. In the swearing-in ceremony, she took oath as one of the cabinet ministers of Adityanath-led government in UP. So, who is Rita Bhauguna Joshi? Why is she a part of the cabinet? Let’s have a look at her journey.

– Rita Bahuguna Joshi belongs comes from a prestigious family background. She is the daughter of Late H.N.Bahuguna, former Chief Minister of UP while her mother, Late Kamla Bahuguna, was an ex-Member of Parliament.

– Rita herself holds MA and a PhD in History and is a professor in Medieval and Modern History at the University of Allahabad. She has won many awards in career including a United Nations Award of Excellence as being among the “Most Distinguished Women in South Asia”.

– She has served as the Mayor of Allahabad between 1995 to 2000. She held various positions in Congress and served as the president of the All India Mahila Congress since 2003.

– In September 2017, Rita was elevated to the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee but lost two Lok Sabha elections.

– In the 2012 UP elections, she became a member of the Legislative Assembly for the Lucknow Cantonment.
