With three days to go for the first phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a rally in Ghaziabad on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Ghaziabad on Wednesday. He attacked Akhilesh government over a range of issues including women’ safety, farmers, youth and jobs. In his previous rally in Aligarh, PM Modi, “Parties are angry with me as I am tightening screws on wrongdoers.” The first phase of elections in Uttar Pradesh will take place on February 11. PM Modi also hit out at the ruling Samajwadi Party in the state for the shutting down of lock industry. “Past governments in UP worked in such a manner that it led to the closure of the famous Aligarh lock industry,” PM Modi had said.

Security was beefed up in Ghaziabad ahead of the rally. Notably, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi is also scheduled to address a poll meeting at Ramlila ground at Raoli road, Ghaziabad in the afternoon.

The organisers had earlier said that PM Modi will arrive in Ghaziabad at around 10 am, while the rally would begin at 9.30 am. There are five Assembly seats in district Ghaziabad. At present, there is no BJP MLA in Ghaziabad. The party is expecting to open its account in the district in the upcoming elections. The five Assembly seats in the district are: Muradnagar, Modinagar, Ghaziabad City, Ghaziabad and Sahibabad.

A day after taking on the Opposition, PM Modi as also expected to speak in the Rajya Sabha, which was adjourned till 2.00 pm on Wednesday.

Here are the some of the highlights from his live speech. 

2.45 pm: PM Modi ends speech.

UP government is anti-farmer. We are trying to connect 500 mandis through technology where farmers can sell their produce online.

2.34 pm: PM Modi says, “It is my promise to you that I will get works done for the benefit of the state.”

“Shouldn’t someone fight against corruption…As long as you would’t punish such government (SP), fight
against corruption will not end.”

2.24 pm: Akhilesh government refused CAG audit of Ghaziabad Development Authorities. We will audit all development authorities in Uttar Pradesh after victory.

Mayawati had a very dear officer and Mulayam, Akhilesh used to speak against him. But after coming to power they befriended him and let him be in Noida. “Ye CBI hai, Modi hai, aaj wo jail me hai.”

2.10 pm: Uttar Pradesh can become Uttam Pradesh of India of we do things properly here.

2.13 pm: “As long as you would’t punish such government, fight against corruption will not end.”

2.09: PM says “You have made so many women in your family leader, but why women are not yet safe in Uttar Pradesh.”

If you had desire, you could have made the state safe for women.

2.02 pm: This election is not about who will win or not.

This election is to end the ‘vanwas’ of development after 14 years in Uttar Pradesh.

They don’t answer in UP, how will they make it Uttar Pradesh.

2.00 pm: PM starts speech.

1.42 pm: PM Modi has landed in Ghaziabad. Organisers estimate that over 30,000 supporters have gathered at the venue. More are expected to reach soon.

1.12 pm: Women and girls throng to the venue in large numbers. They are concerned over crimes against women and wants assurance of safety. Some of them say that they would vote for BJP in the name of Modi as he would ensure the safety of women and girls in the state. Samajwadi Party’s record on women safety has been dubious till now.

1.11 pm: The crowd has increased at the venue. But more delay is annoying some of the BJP supporters.

11.48 am: While BJP IT cell officials are giving a time of 12.15 pm for PM Modi’s arrival, Most of them are unofficially saying he won’t arrive before 2 pm. Meanwhile, waiting for the PM right now are hundreds of empty chairs at the venue.

11.33 am: There is hardly a crowd of 3,000-4000 at the venue right now.

11.30 am: BJP IT cell says the PM will reach around 12.15 am.

10.30 am: PM Modi is attending Lok Sabha proceeding in the Parliament. He is expected to leave for Ghaziabad after the Parliamentary proceeding.

10.01 am: Prime Minister Modi will arrive in Ghaziabad at around 11 am, according to ANI.
